Many term infant formulas use palm olein oil in an attempt to achieve a fatty acid profile similar to breast milk.
SIMILAC ADVANCE with Omega-3 and Omega-6 is free of palm olein oil. This is important because studies have shown that:
- Babies fed a formula with palm olein oil as the predominant fat source absorbed less calcium than the same babies fed a formula with no palm olein oil.
- Babies fed a formula with palm olein oil as the predominant fat source had lower bone mineral content than babies fed a formula without palm olein oil, in babies studied up to six months of age.
- Babies fed a formula free of palm olein oil had a bone mineral content comparable to that of breastfed babies at 4 weeks and 12 weeks.
