What Form of Baby Formula Should I Use?

Formulas are sold in 3 forms:

  • Concentrated liquid
  • Powder
  • Ready-to-Use

The 3 forms are all complete; they contain all the nutrients needed by your baby. The choice depends on the person preparing the product, based on his preferences.

Water must be added to concentrated liquid and powdered formulas. The formula must be precisely diluted to ensure the nutritional balance essential for the newborn’s growth and to take into account the immaturity of her kidneys and digestive tract. Too much or too little water can cause digestion and health problems.

  • Concentrated liquid formulas are easier to use than powdered formulas and cost roughly as much as powered formulas.
  • Ready-to-Use products are used as is; they are convenient and practical. They are the most expensive of the three formats.

Ask your baby’s health care professional which form is the most appropriate for your baby.
