Diarrhea / Dehydration Prevention
How can I tell if my baby has diarrhea? How can I tell if my baby is dehydrated?Diarrhea may be caused by an infection, or your baby’s inability to properly digest nutrients in her food.
To help keep your baby well-hydrated during an episode of diarrhea, your baby’s doctor may recommend using an oral maintenance solution such as Pedialyte.
Dehydration can progress quickly, especially in infants and small children. If you suspect your child is becoming dehydrated, consult your baby’s doctor or take your child to the hospital.

Pedialyte
To quickly replace fluids and electrolytes lost during diarrhea and vomiting; to help prevent dehydration in infants and children; for maintenance of water and electrolytes following corrective parenteral therapy for severe diarrhea. Designed to prevent dehydration more effectively than common household beverages.
After an episode of diarrhea, some babies may experience short-term lactose intolerance, in which case your baby’s doctor may recommend switching temporarily to a lactose-free formula such as Similac for Babies Sensitive to Lactose, Isomil, Isomil Advance with Omega-3 and Omega-6 or Isomil Step 2.
